GOODBYE TURDBRAINS! is the title of Mimi Leung’s summer show at Tenderpixel Gallery.

Mimi paints drawings and draws paintings, and uses lots of colour on top of her paintidrawings.

You might marvel at the perfect symmetry of hundreds of hand-drawn ant paths. Be it a cow, a dog, or a woodland log, you may find these images 'cute.’ However, beware, upon closer inspection you will realise that these are a collection of Mimi's more sinister thought manifestations. Mimi’s clean line movements and bold colour designs are her way of confronting death, decay and the things she has seen yet attempted to suppress into the back of her mind.

During a recent trip to the Aboriginal Yuendumu community in Central Australia, Mimi had a lot of time to think, play and reconfigure her artistic-vision. Mimi's thought-space conjured images of torture, Unit 731: a human testing ground for biological and chemical warfare, genocide, the repetition of mistakes in history, and the work of Otto Dix.

GOODBYE TURDBRAINS! is the result of her journey. You may be disgusted, you may be fascinated, or both… this is bloody life transformed into bloody art.

Mimi Leung was born in 1982 and studied at Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art. Her work has featured in Dazed & Confused, Time Out HK, Milk HK, and The Guardian.

The Lürzer Archive’s has listed her as one of the 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide.

Most recently she has taken part in Vice's Creative 30 Show and Heavy Pencil at the ICA.

Mimi currently lives and works in London and Hong Kong.
