Tenderflix 2016

Better Living

International Film and Video Competition. 25 November, 7 until 9pm

Screening at The Horse Hospital, London

Congratulation to Sarah Cockings & Harriet Fleuriot, the winners of the 2016 Tenderflix Prize with their video, Plasma Vista!

Artists Sarah Cockings and Harriet Fleuriot began working together in 2014 on a promotional film for Sarah’s new ‘Plasma Vista’ business concept – a platform for episodical image-based art showcasing designed products, furnishings and clothing. Everything featured in the film would be available to buy on ‘Plasma Vista’. Plans to complete the film within two months fell away and after two years carefully discussing and developing, the project morphed from a necessary investment task into an expressive vehicle for working together as artists. The film intuitively responded to this disobedient breakdown that rejected the commercial brief, instead moulding itself around ideas that explored utility, economics, production, creativity and aesthetics. The original concept had eaten itself, pushed back, self-rendered dysfunctional and reformed into an independent experimental piece of moving image.

Tenderflix is an international experimental film and video competition organised by Tenderpixel. In its 9th year in 2016 we received over 350 submissions for the theme, Better Living. Originally related to the design field, this notion genuinely echoes a wider strive to imagine better structures for building all aspects of our lives – most importantly in terms of aesthetics, economics and social relations.

The shortlisted 11 films were screened on 25 November 2016 in front of over 120 people at The Horse Hospital in London, where the winner of the competition was announced and given the £1000 cash prize.
